Harry Potter’s Box Office Bonanza

The final film in the Harry Potter series, HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATH HALLOWS PART II, has had a remarkable overseas debut this weekend, grossing over $300 million in almost 60 international territories. Its weekend gross has made it the second biggest weekend opening in the series’ history. The film has already set records in Australia, France, Italy, Sweden, Norway, The Netherlands, Belgium, Finland and Russia. In total, the Harry Potter series has generated an astounding $7 billion worldwide (domestic plus foreign), with foreign alone accounting for nearly 75% of that figure. Only 16 movies have ever made over $600 million overseas, and six of those are Harry Potter movies.
