Harvey Teams With Meryl For Biopic

Written by: FFT Webmaster | May 16th, 2011

It’s got Oscar written all over it…..Harvey Weinstein has acquired all rights to IRON LADY, the biopic production with Meryl Streep channeling the UK’s controversial prime minister Margaret Thatcher. The Weinstein Company emerged victorious from a furious bidding war at the Cannes Film Festival, winning the rights over such powerhouses as Universal, Fox Searchlight and Summit Entertainment. The film is directed by Phyllida Lloyd, who helmed both the stage and movie versions of the megahit musical MAMMA MIA! The film is expected to figure strongly at the 2012 Oscars, with wags predicting that Meryl Streep will win her first Best Actress Oscar since 1982, when she won for her lead role in SOPHIE’S CHOICE. For Harvey Weinstein, he is hoping for a repeat of the success of this year’s celebrated British biopic THE KING’S SPEECH.
