Rome Film Festival Award Winners

Prizes were announced this past weekend for the Rome International Film Festival. The International Jury, which included such luminaries as composer Ennio Morricone, director Susanne Bier, producer David Puttnam and actress Debra Winger, selected UN CUENTO CHINO (Chinese Takeaway) by Sebastián Borensztein as the winner of the Marc’ Aurelio Jury Award for Best Film. The Spanish/Argentine co-production, a comedy starring Ricardo Darin, was also voted an Audience Award for Best Film. The Marc’Aurelio Award for Best Documentary was won by GIRL MODEL, an American film set in the fast-paced world of child models, directed by David Redmon and Ashley Sabin. The Grand Marc’Aurelio Jury  Award was given to veteran French director Claude Miller for VOYEZ COMME ILS DANSENT (See How They Dance), with a Special Marc’Aurelio Jury Award bestowed on veteran Australian director Fred Schepisi’s family drama THE EYE OF THE STORM, featuring an all-star cast that includes Geoffrey Rush, Charlotte Rampling and Judy Davis. Swedish actress Noomi Rapace (the original “girl with the dragon tattoo) won the Marc’ Aurelio Jury Award for Best Actress for the Norwegian thriller BABYCALL. French actor Guillaume Canet won Best Actor honors for his lead role in UNE VIE MEILLEURE (A Better Life), the latest film from writer/director Cédric Kahn. The Marc’Aurelio Acting Award was presented to Hollywood icon  Richard Gere, in recognition of his four decade acting career and his philanthropic works.
