Tom Hanks Film To Close Singapore Film Festival

Written by: FFT Webmaster | May 18th, 2011

The board of the inaugural ScreenSingapore Festival, which will have its inaugural session next month, announced at the Cannes Film Festival that its Closing Night Gala will be LARRY CROWNE, the latest directorial effort from Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks. The actor stars opposite Julia Roberts in a topical tale of corporate downsizing. Hanks stars as a downsized former superstar team leader at the big-box company where he’s worked for years. Underwater on his mortgage and unclear on what to do with his suddenly free days, he heads to his local college to start over. There he becomes part of a colorful community of outcasts, also-rans and the overlooked all trying to find a better future for themselves. In his public-speaking class, he develops an unexpected crush on his teacher (Roberts), who has lost as much passion for teaching as she has for her husband. Universal Pictures will release the film in North America on July 4th Weekend.
