Ben Stiller Takes On Producer Role

Ben Stiller, one of the few bankable stars of the moment, is trying on a new hat…..that of producer. He’s had a production shingle for more than 10 years. He has served as a producer of his own films (REALITY BITES, ZOOLANDER, TROPIC THUNDER) but now is branching out as a producer of other people’s projects. His first is the English dysfunctional family drama SUBMARINE, which opens theatrically on June 3. The film, which screened at the recent Tribeca Film Festival, focuses on a 15 year old who is intent on losing his virginity and saving his parents’ crumbling marriage. He also has producer credit for the summer action comedy 30 MINUTES OR LESS, starring Jesse Eisenberg, and THE BIG YEAR, a buddy comedy starring Owen Wilson, Steve Martin and Jack Black that opens this Fall. Stiller is currently on Broadway in a revival of John Guare’s seminal play THE HOUSE OF BLUE LEAVES.
