Cannes Directors Fortnight Winners

In the non-competitive Directors Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival, two European films were recognized. ATMEN (Breathing) by Austrian director Karl Markovics, a bracing drama about a teenager boy who is serving time in a juvenile detention center, won the Label Europa Cinemas award for best European film in the section. LES GEANTS, a road movie by Belgian director Bouli Lanners won both the Art Cinema Award and the Prix SACD. The Art Cinema Award is given by the International Confederation of Art Cinemas (CICAE), an arthouse association, while the SACD Prize is given to the best French-language film in the section.
