Global Lens 2012 returns to New York’s Museum Of Modern Art, offering countries with emerging film cultures an international showcase for their best works. The films presented in this annual collaboration between MoMA and the Global Film Initiative (GFI) include a selection of 10 programs, all developed with seed money from GFI, represents a concise survey of contemporary filmmaking from areas where local economic and social realities inform the completed film projects under survey. The ten award-winning narrative feature films hail from Albania, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Iran, Iraq, Morocco, Rwanda and Turkey. Among the series’ highlights are the darkly comic Iranian road trip film MOURNING by debut director Morteza Farshbaf (winner of the FIPRESCI Prize and New Currents Award at the 2011 Pusan International Film Festival); Paula Markovitch’s beautifully acted Argentine political drama THE PRIZE (Silver Bear, 2011 Berlin International Film Festival); and PEGASUS, Mohamed Mouftakir’s atmospheric psychological thriller about tribes and tradition in present-day Morocco (winner of the Golden Stallion at the 2011 FESPACO African Festival and the Best Cinematography Prize at the 2010 Dubai Film Festival).
