The Tribeca Film Festival, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, is still largely a festival without a distinct personality, so perhaps the thought here is to tap into Boyer’s extensive reputation with international arthouse filmmakers and distributors and bring more shape to the far-reaching Tribeca program. The organization’s move into theatrical and VOD distribution also provides a key entrée into the North American market for European and other world cinema titles that may fall between the cracks of mainstream distribution. “I could not be more honored and excited to begin this new chapter at Tribeca”, Boyer enthused in a prepared statement. “This Festival has matured and developed so impressively from its origins, but there are many more frontiers to explore while keeping the core focus on discovering new voices in filmmaking”. Boyer will report to Nancy Schafer, Executive Director of TFF, and Geoff Gilmore, Chief Creative Officer of Tribeca Enterprises, who will take on a more active role in overseeing the Festival program, while maintaining his existing responsibilities across Tribeca Enterprises’ other businesses. The 11th annual Tribeca Film Festival will be held April 18-29, 2012, in New York City.
