Later this month, the Film Society of Lincoln Center will be presenting Long Shadows: The Late Work of Satyajit Ray, including all the films made by the iconic director in the autumnal years of his career. Certainly India’s most famed and well loved filmmaker, Ray revealed a more meditative side in these late films, which are not as readily available or screened as his pioneering classic films of the 1950s and 1960s. The series will include such latee masterworks as HOME AND THE WORLD, his wonderful adaptation of a work by his mentor Rabindranath Tagore, and his final work THE STRANGER, an extraordinary summing up of the Ray aesthetic, as well being graced with a sensational lead performance by Utpal Dutt.
