Robert De Niro Channels Bernie Madoff

Robert De Niro has played some notorious characters in his career but none may match the infamy or Shakespearean tragedy of Bernard Madoff, who is serving a life sentence for swindling thousands of investors in the biggest financial ripoff of the century. De Niro, who is currently serving as the President of the Cannes Film Festival Jury, has announced that his Tribeca Productions banner is developing a biopic with Home Box Office about the Ponzi scheme pilferer. The film, which will be produced by De Niro and his Tribeca Productions partner Jane Rosenthal, will be based on Diane Henrique’s new book “The Wizard of Lies: Bernie Madoff and the Death of Trust.” De Niro, who has made a career of playing big screen baddies, is rumored to be starring in the upcoming Lee Daniels-directed historical drama SELMA as segregationist Alabama governor George Wallace (now, that’s bad).
