Coming off the success of MIDNIGHT IN PARIS, which has become the most financially successful film in writer/director Woody Allen’s storied career, Sony Pictures Classics has acquired North American and U.K. rights to Allen’s next picture, NERO FIDDLED, the first he has shot in Rome. The film, which features an all-star cast that includes Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penelope Cruz, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig and Ellen Page, continues the director’s recent foray of making films both financed and shot in Europe, after decades of being the quintessential New York film auteur. The film, which is slated for a world premiere in May at the Cannes Film Festival, tells several stories in a series of vignettes set in the Eternal City. The film is the fifth collaboration between Allen and the distribution company, with Sony having released MIDNIGHT IN PARIS, YOU WILL MEET A TALL DARK STRANGER, WHATEVER WORKS and SWEET AND LOWDOWN. Sony is planning a summer release.
