Riding solid reviews and great word-of-mouth among moviegoers, THE HELP, the DreamWorks’ film adaptation of the best-seller set in Mississippi at the dawn of the civil rights era, enjoyed a strong first weekend at the domestic box office. The Disney-distributed film has grossed an impressive $35 million plus in its first five days……not bad for a non-actioner. The film, which was produced by DreamWorks and Participant Media, is trending strongly in the American heartland, with the top five grossing theaters located in such locales as Memphis, Jackson (Mississippi, where the story is set), Chicago, Atlanta and Dallas. The film is already generating Oscar talk.
