Sundance Selects Picks Up Nanni Moretti Film

One of the hits of the Cannes Film Festival has been picked up for North American rights by Sundance Selects, the sister company to IFC Films. HABEMUS PAPAM, the newest film from Italian auteur Nanni Moretti, is a comedic drama in which the director stars, along with veteran French actor Michel Piccoli.  In the film, a newly elected Pope (Piccoli) suffers a panic attack just as he is due to appear in public for the first time. His advisors, unable to convince him he is the right man for the job, seek help from a renowned psychoanalyst and atheist (Moretti). HABEMUS PAPAM had its world premiere at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival in competition.  It will next screen at the Toronto International Film Festival in September as a Special Presentation. Moretti is recognized as one of contemporary Italy’s shining talents for his work on such esteemed films as the Cannes Palme d’Or winner THE SON’S ROOM and DEAR DIARY.
