For many veteran visitors of the Toronto International Film Festival, which is reaching its midpoint this week, they can remember the exact place where they were 10 years ago when they first heard about the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. In 2001, the Festival actually closed down for two days, while international guests and particularly New Yorkers strategized how to leave following an airport lockdown. Every year since, the Festival has marked the anniversary in various ways, including presenting omnibus short films, each 11 minutes and 9 seconds long. For this year, to mark the 10th anniversary on Sunday, the Festival screened a specially commissioned four-minute short before every public screening in place of the sponsor trailers that regularly precede the main feature presentation. The short film weaves together first-person recollections from a number of industry people who were in Toronto that fateful day, tapping on their reactions and experiences during that day.
