ATO Pictures Acquires Sundance Thriller

Written by: FFT Webmaster | August 3rd, 2011

ATO (Art Takes Over) Pictures, one of the new arthouse distribution shingles this year, has  acquired U.S. theatrical rights to THIN ICE, a psychological thriller that premiered to strong acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival. The formerly titled THE CONVINCER features an all-star cast that includes Greg Kinnear, Alan Arkin, Billy Crudup, Lea Thompson, David Harbour and Bob Balaban. In the film, Kinnear plays an insurance agent looking for a way to jump-start his business, reunite with his estranged wife (Thompson) and escape the frigid Wisconsin weather. He hits pay dirt with a lonely retired farmer (Arkin) who is sitting on something much bigger than an insurance commission but must confront a local locksmith (Crudup) who traps him in his own game of deceit. The film is directed by Jill Sprecher (THIRTEEN CONVERSATIONS ABOUT ONE THING, CLOCKWATCHERS) and co-written by the director and her sister Karen Sprecher (BIG LOVE). Werc Werk Works’ Elizabeth Redleaf and Christine Walker and Spare Room Productions’ Mary Frances Budig produced.  ATO will release the film in the Fall after it presumably plays some high profile festival dates.  Currently, ATO has another Sundance hit, the John C. Reilly-starrer TERRI, in general release.
