Call To Occupy Sundance Film Festival

I guess it was inevitable that a group of disenchanted filmmakers would take up the clarion call heard and followed around the globe and Occupy Sundance. For some, Sundance has become just another corporate branding machine with an imperious attitude and a non-democratic demeanor. I would beg to differ but there certainly is a case to be made for the clash between the “invited” and the “uninvited”, a chasm pretty large by filmmaker standards. While it is inevitable that with thousands of entries and less than 200 screening slots, that most submitting filmmakers are more disgruntled than ecstatic, the fact is that Sundance is a full spectrum event. However, be that as it may, from January 21 to 24, the Occupy Sundance Film Festival offers an alternative showcase for attending filmmakers, programmers, press and industry reps. Inspiration for the event came from production company My House On Fire and this will be the only program in Park City to showcase movies from the Occupy Wall Street movement, emphasizing inspiration and art.
