Harry Potter Biggest Film Franchise Ever

The HARRY POTTER series has now officially become the most lucrative film franchise in the history of cinema. As of this weekend, the eight HARRY POTTER films have accumulated more than $7 billion, edging out the previous record holder STAR WARS (which accumulated more than $5 billion with its five films)….and the latest film, HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART II is still going gangbusters in theaters worldwide. These top two film series are also the first to have crossed the $5 billion mark, though the JAMES BOND and BATMAN franchises would have joined the party if adjusted for ticket price inflation. However, it must be said that the STAR WARS films, which came out when ticket prices were an average of $6.00, still trumps HARRY POTTER when it comes to estimated attendance, with the George Lucas series more than doubling the number of tickets sold for the wizard wunderkind.
