Written by: FFT Webmaster | April 26th, 2011

Jose Antonio Zuniga has become one of Mexico’s most recognizable figures as the documentary film about his ordeal has sparked controversy in Mexico over the failings of Mexico’s legal system. Incarcerated for a murder he did not commit, the film PRESUMED GUILTY chronicles his time in prison and his efforts for a new trial, which would eventually lead to his release. The film has become one of the most successful Mexican documentaries ever released in the country and displays the goings on inside Mexico’s secretive court system. The film was produced by Layda Negrete, one hyalf of a husband-and-wife team who made the film in order to bring attention to Mexico’s biased and often corrupt criminal justice system.
