Osama Bin Laden Films On The Fast Track?

Written by: FFT Webmaster | May 4th, 2011

Following the news that Osama Bin Laden, America’s public enemy number one, has been killed in Pakistan, several projects on the former Al Qaeda honcho may be on the fast track to getting filmed. Oscar winning director Kathryn Bigelow (THE HURT LOCKER) and Mark Boal have been working on a thriller about a special forces plot to capture Bin Laden but set in the mountains where he was thought to be hiding. Oscar winner Oliver Stone had been developing a Paramount Pictures project titled JAWBREAKER, based on the former CIA commander Gary Bernstein memoir “Jawbreaker: The Attack on Bin Laden and Al Qaeda: A Personal Account by the CIA’s Key Field Commander.” Not to be outdone, actor/director George Clooney and recent Oscar winner Aaron Sorkin (THE SOCIAL NETWORK) are in development of THE CHALLENGE, based on Jonathan Mahler’s book about Bin Laden’s bodyguard and driver. None of the above projects has been firm about casting or start dates and clearly this may be too much Bin Laden, but the capture and death this week may derail at least one or two of the projects.
