SnagFilms, the three-year-old company that specializes in the digital distribution of documentary films, has announced that it will move into the distribution of narrative films and expand its availability via joint ventures with such digital platforms as Android and BlackBerry mobile devices, DIRECTV, Vudu, Xbox Live, Sony, Samsung and Vizio. On the content side, SnagFilms has added hundreds of narrative films to its library of more than 2,300 non-fiction titles, including such film classics as THE BLUE ANGEL (Josef Von Sternberg), UN CHIEN ANDALOU (Luis Bunuel), INTOLERANCE (D.W. Griffith), IL GRIDO (Michaelangelo Antonioni), SLACKER (Richard Linklater), HAPPY TOGETHER (Wong Kar-Wai) and a host of American indie titles that were never distributed theatrically or which are ripe for re-discovery following a limited theatrical release. The expansion, which includes a re-design of its website, comes nine months after the company received $10 million in new funding from Comcast Interactive Capital and New Enterprise Associates.
