Will Woody Attend The Oscars This Year?

Written by: FFT Webmaster | February 24th, 2012

Although he has been nominated and won multiple times (notably for the 1977 comedy classic ANNIE HALL which snagged Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress and Best Screenplay honors), Woody Allen has been one of the Academy’s most notorious no-shows. This year, Woody is nominated for both Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for the indie hit MIDNIGHT IN PARIS, and while most do not expect him to attend, there is a rumor circulating in New York that he is currently in Los Angeles and that he might make a historic appearance to pick up his screenplay prize (he is widely touted to win). So, in an evening that now seems rather predictable, this may be one of mega-surprises of the night. The speculation comes amidst news that one of Allen’s previous hits BULLETS OVER BROADWAY is being adapted into a stage musical on Broadway. Allen will adapt the screenplay he co-wrote with Douglas McGrath and write the book for the songs. Of course, being a Woody Allen production, much of the music will be pre-existing jazz tunes from the 1920s and 1930s, but apparently the clarinet-playing writer/director will be penning some original stuff as well. Woody conquers Broadway….is there anything this guy can’t do?
