Eddie Murphy To Host Academy Awards

Written by: FFT Webmaster | September 7th, 2011

After last year’s lackluster dual hosting of the Oscars by James Franco and Anne Hathaway, a move that was designed to bring in a more youthful audience, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences is going more old school with the announcement that comedian/actor Eddie Murphy will host the 2012 ceremonies. This is the first time that Murphy will take the helm at the Oscars show, coming only 5 years after his first and only Oscar nomination in a supporting role in the big budget musical DREAMGIRLS.  The telecast producers Brett Ratner and Don Mischer are bringing back a comedian in the position, hoping to duplicate the success of such beloved hosts of the past such as Bob Hope, Billy Crystal and Steve Martin to the proceedings. The Oscars will reach a worldwide audience of nearly 1 billion television viewers around the globe on February 26, 2012.
