Written by: FFT Webmaster | August 29th, 2011

NYPD, a 19-film festival spotlighting the New York police force on film, known locally as “New York’s finest”, will be begin at Manhattan’s Film Forum on September 2nd, as a run-up to the 10th anniversary anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, in which many men and women in blue gave their lives. The series, which spans six decades of copper capers, kicks off with two classic NYC noirs: LAURA, the penultimate New York noir, directed by Otto Preminger and starring Gene Tierney and Dana Andrews; and WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS, which also teams the duo in the story of a corrupt cop on the trail of a criminal kingpin. Other classic New York police force dramas in the series include DETECTIVE STORY, CRY OF THE CITY, THE TAKING OF PELHAM 123, THE DETECTIVE, MADIGAN, SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS, THE WRONG MAN and, of course, the ultimate police whistleblowing story, Sidney Lumet’s SERPICO with a superb performance by Al Pacino.
