The Hamptons International Film Festival, an oasis of cinema in the far reaches of Long Island, opened last evening with the comedy JEFF, WHO LIVES AT HOME, the latest film from indie darlings Jay and Mark Duplass. The film, which features great comedic performances from Jason Segel, Ed Helms and Susan Sarandon, kicks off a five day flurry of premieres, parties and panel discussions. The Festival continues through October 16 with the Closing Night attraction THE ARTIST, a contemporary silent film by French director Michel Hazanavicius that wowed critics and audiences at the Cannes Film Festival. The Centerpiece Film screening on October 15 is LIKE CRAZY, director Drake Doremus’ Sundance Film Festival winner about the romance between a British college student (Felicity Jones) and her American classmate (Anton Yelchin). In addition, the Festival will host a number of U.S. and regional premieres in its Spotlight, Competition and World Cinema Films sections, including such buzz worthy titles as THE RUM DIARY, MELANCHOLIA and WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN. A highlight of the program is the Conflict & Resolution series, which has been a signature element of the Festival for 12 years, which spotlights films about the human realities of war and violence.
