Hot Pre-Sales Market Predicted For Cannes

Even with hundreds of completed films available to be screened at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival and its parallel Cannes Film Market, the biggest headlines come from the pre-sales activity on films yet to be produced. This year, with an improved international economy, the pre-sales market is expected to be especially active. Foreign sales companies will be offering a broad array of titles touting marquee names like Christian Bale, Mark Wahlberg, Emma Watson, Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep, Taylor Kitsch and even Oprah Winfrey. With Hollywood almost solely concentrated on its mega-budget tent pole films, there is a strong opportunity for well-heeled independents to score. Expectations are high after the pre-sales activities of last year (including the megahit THE HUNGER GAMES) exceeded worldwide box office predictions. Among the films to be pre-sold are AGENT: CENTURY 21 with Cameron Diaz and Benicio del Toro, an untitled Elmore Leonard adaptation to star Jennifer Aniston and Dennis Quaid, and THE BUTLER featuring Matthew McConaughey, Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, Alan Rickman. Oprah Winfrey, John Cusack and Jane Fonda.
