Johnny Depp’s THE LONE RANGER Stops Production

One of the biggest films on the Disney slate, an adaptation of the 1950s television western THE LONE RANGER, set to star the studio’s most important actor Johnny Depp, has come to a halt. The production was set to begin in October in New Mexico has been indefinitely postponed. Rumors are flying that the studio has been alarmed by the staggering budget increases on the project and has (temporarily) pulled the plug as a ploy to renegotiate. Aside from Depp, the film comes with the Hollywood heft of producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, who directed three of the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN films starring Depp, the studio’s biggest grossing franchise ever. Originally, THE LONE RANGER had a coveted late December 2012 release date but that now seems less likely with an indefinite production delay. Stay tuned……
