PR Veteran Swartz Setting Up Her Own Shingle

Cynthia Swartz, a veteran Oscar strategist who worked with The Weinsteins on many of their most successful titles and who since 2005 has been a partner at pr powerhouse agency 42West is finalizing a deal to leave the company and set up her own public relations company. The announcement comes just days before the start of the fall festival calendar, starting next weekend with the Telluride Film Festival and continuing through September with the Toronto and New York Film Festivals. Last year, Swartz’s clients included THE SOCIAL NETWORK, the most buzzed about title of the year. She was also responsible for shepherding the war film THE HURT LOCKER into the Oscar circle in a toe-to-toe battle with the special effects epic AVATAR. During her 13 years at Miramax, she was the go-to person for the innovative awards season campaigns for such films as THE CRYING GAME, THE PIANO, PULP FICTION, THE ENGLISH PATIENT, GOOD WILL HUNTING, SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, THE HOURS, CHICAGO, GANGS OF NEW YORK and THE AVIATOR.
