Spielberg Is On Board

Written by: FFT Webmaster | October 4th, 2011

Academy Award-winning filmmaker Steven Spielberg has joined the Board of Directors of the Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC), a nonprofit institution based in Westchester County with a dual mission of independent film exhibition and 21st century education. The Film Center presents first-run and repertory programming throughout the year, and has also been a local leader in providing innovative education programs on film and new media technologies that has reached out to over 75,000 students in the region. “I have not heard of anything like the Jacob Burns Film Center happening anywhere else in the world,” Steven Spielberg was quoted as saying in a prepared statement.. “What makes the JBFC different from every other well-intentioned organization that brings community and film together is its educational outreach to under-resourced schools. They reach so deeply into the community to give kids a chance to find themselves early on and before it’s too late, because that’s all the kids really want. I am thrilled to be on the Board and look forward to the work we will do together.” In addition to Spielberg, the JBFC Board of Directors includes David Swope, (Chairman), Janet Maslin, (President), Brian Ackerman (ex officio), David Alexander, Stephen Apkon, Lisa Hertz Apkon, David Barber, Janet Benton, Helen W. Bernstein, Joseph P. Carlucci, Sabrina Coughlin, Jonathan Demme, Paul D. Frankel, Ron Howard, Gary E. Knell, Nancy S. Kohlberg, Damian Kozlowski, Hugh Price, Art Samberg, (Chairman Emeritus), Jeff Samberg, Esmeralda Santiago, Barry Shenkman, and Brian Skarstad.
