Museum Of Modern Art Presents Oscar Contenders

The Museum of Modern Art is currently presenting The Contenders, its annual end-of-the-year series that singles out the most talked about films of the year, many on their way to Oscar gold. Selected from major studio releases and top film festivals by curators in the Museum’s Department of Film, the films represent the best of mainstream movies, independents, foreign-language films, documentaries, and art-house sensations. The series began on November 8, and so far has showcased such leading titles as J. EDGAR (Clint Eastwood, US), MY WEEK WITH MARILYN (Simon Curtis, UK), THE ARTIST (Michael Hazanavicius, France), BRIDESMAIDS (Paul Feig, US), ), THE TREE OF LIFE (Terrence Malick, US), ANONYMOUS (Roland Emmerich, UK/Germany), DRIVE (Nicolas Winding Refn, US), THE DESCENDANTS (Alexander Payne, US) and MIDNIGHT IN PARIS (Woody Allen, Spain/US). Still coming through January 30, 2012 are such highlights as MONEYBALL (Bennett Miller, US), A DANGEROUS METHOD (David Cronenberg, Canada/Germany/UK), RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES (Rupert Wyatt, US), HUGO (Martin Scorsese, US), THE SILVER CLIFF (Karim Ainouz, Brazil), TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY (Tomas Alfredson, France/UK/Germany), RANGO (Gore Verbinski, US), THE HELP (Tate Taylor, US), WOMEN ART REVOLUTION (Lynn Hershman-Leeson, US), A SEPERATION (Asghar Farhadi, Iran), THE MUPPETS (James Bobin, US), LA FILLE DE MONTREAL (Jeanne Crepeau, Canada), MELANCHOLIA (Lars von Trier, Denmark/Sweden/France/Germany), MARGIN CALL (J.C.
