Outsider Pictures Buys Argentine Road Film

Written by: FFT Webmaster | March 30th, 2012

Outsider Pictures has purchased U.S. theatrical rights for the Argentine road film LAS ACACIAS. The deal occurred after the film’s screening at the Miami International Film Festival earlier this month. LAS ACACIAS, directed by Pablo Giorgelli, screened in the Lexus Ibero-American Opera-Prima Competition, featuring debut works from Latin American filmmakers. The film had already made a name for itself on the international film festival circuit, having won the Camera d’Or for Best First Film at the Cannes Film Festival and the Latin Horizons prize at the San Sebastian Film Festival. The film unfolds along the highway linking Asunción to Buenos Aires, which trucker Rubén is accustomed to traveling solo. This time, however, he’s got a passenger, Jacinta, and a road full of revelations on the horizon. Giorgelli’s film was co-produced by Buenos Aires-based companies AIRECINE and Utópica Cine, along with Armonika Entertainment from Spain. “We’re excited to add this award winning story from this promising director to our catalogue of films,” said Paul Hudson, co-founder of Outsider Pictures. “This beautiful cinematic cross-country tour of Argentina is touching and we are sure it will resonate with audiences.”  The film will be released theatrically and on VOD in the coming months.
