Cinedigm Expanding Its Distribution Reach

Written by: FFT Webmaster | June 5th, 2012

Digital exhibition company Cinedigm is rapidly expanding its distribution reach. Last month, the company, whose main business has been introducing digital technology into existing theater chains, acquired New Video, a 30-year-old distribution company for digital home entertainment that includes a 5000 title library of many classic American indie and international titles. The company, led by former Turner Films head Chris McGurk, is now actively acquiring films to feed its multiple distribution platforms. The company has announced that it will theatrically release the French action thriller 22 BULLETS, starring French superstar Jean Reno, which was a major box office sensation in its home country last year. Inspired by real-life events, the film is the story of a Marseille gangster who has gone straight but is sucked back into the criminal underworld when he survives an assassination attempt and seeks out the man who tried to kill him. Other recent Cinedigm acquisitions include documentarian Kirby Dick’s THE INVISIBLE WAR, about rape in the military, and CITADEL, a horror movie that created strong buzz at SXSW.
