The Canadian Film Fest (CFF) will return to Toronto after a three year hiatus to offer a small but focused program of new Canadian feature films. Boasting nine feature films from emerging and established filmmakers alongside ten short films, the Canadian Film Fest will take place from March 28 to March 31. The festivities begin with the local premiere of CLOUDBURST, directed by Thom Fitzgerald, which stars Oscar winners Olympia Dukakis and Brenda Fricker as a senior lesbian couple who must go on the lam to keep their relationship intact. Based on the director’s hit play, the film tells the tale of how the couple, who have lived together for over 30 years, fight to stay together when the family of one of them decides to place their mother in a nursing home. The aging “Thelma and Louise” duo make a dash for the province of Nova Scotia, where gay marriage is legal.
“I am overjoyed to be back on the festival circuit,” said Bern Euler, Executive Director of the Canadian Film Fest. “Torontonians appetite for cinema has grown and become even more sophisticated over the past four years. We are thrilled to satiate that appetite by returning to the scene with a slate of solid films.” For more information on the Canadian Film Fest, visit: www.canfilmfest.ca
