“Where the Wild Things Are” Cinematographer Talks Creativity, Collaboration and Storytelling

createasphereOctober 27, 2009 (Burbank, CA) – Acclaimed American cinematographer Lance Acord will share insights and experiences in an up-close Conversation with American Cinematographer Magazine’s Associate Editor Jon Witmer during HD EXPO – Createasphere on November 4, 2009.

The Keynote Conversation takes place during the popular event’s two-day, flagship conference and exposition at the Burbank Marriott Conference Center.

Long admired for his visual bravura and well known for his long–standing collaborations with directors including Spike Jonze and Sofia Coppola, Lance has worked on some of the most compelling visual storytelling of the past decade.  His latest feature “Where the Wild Things Are” took the top spot in the opening weekend box office race and continues to attract critical acclaim.

Lance is a native of Northern California; he studied photography and filmmaking at the San Francisco Art Institute. “Buffalo 66,” his first DP credit, earned him a Spirit Award nomination for the edgy feature’s visual style and brought international attention to the young cinematographer.  He worked with Spike Jonze on the critically acclaimed “Being John Malkovich,” and continued his relationship with the director for the Academy Award winning “Adaptation.” The duo most recently collaborated on “Where the Wild Things Are,” an emotive telling of the beloved Maurice Sendak children’s story.  Lance lensed Sofia Coppola’s Oscar winning “Lost In Translation” and “Marie Antoinette,” a sumptuous, modern telling of the ill-fated queen’s story.

In addition to his revered feature cinematography, Lance is a well known and award winning television commercial director.  He directs spots through his company, Park Pictures, and his commercial directing credits include commercials for Nike, Mercedes, Gucci, Coca Cola, Adidas and numerous globally recognized brands. Lance has directed and or shot music videos for artists including Sheryl Crow, Bjork and Elastica.  Kudos includes three Gold Lions at Cannes for his spot work, and nominations from the DGA, BAFTA and the Chicago Film Critics Association for his feature film cinematography.  He will be joined in the Keynote Conversation with American Cinematographer Associate Editor, Jon Witmer.

A variety of panels and educational offerings fill both days in addition to The  Keynote Conversation with Lance Acord, including a MobilizedTV panel, “Creating Content for the Mobile Platform: What Every Producer should Know,” and “Hard Core, Revolutionary and Indispensable,” a panel of leading camera operators, equipment experts and production team members talking about the latest on-set developments. A full array of 3D panels, screenings and information unspool on HD EXPO’s 3rd Annual 3D day on November 5th. A full complement of paid and free educational intensives is being presented over the two days.

HD EXPO – Createasphere takes place at the Burbank Marriott Convention Center, on Nov. 4 and 5, 2009.  For further information about panels, education or exhibition at HD EXPO – Createasphere, visit www.createasphere.com, or call 818.842.6611.
