Avant Garde Artist Pic To Be Released By Music Box

Music Box Films has acquired the domestic distribution rights to MARINA ABRAMOVIC: THE ARTIST IS PRESENT, a resonant documentary on the avant-garde performance artist who recently had a career retrospective at New York’s prestigious Museum of Modern Art. The film, directed by Matthew Aker, was produced in association with HBO Documentary Films, which will show the film on its pay cable channel following a limited theatrical release. Over the course of a career that spans 40 years, Marina Abramović has been redefining performance art, using her body as a medium, and pushing herself beyond her physical and mental limits to create  emotionally provocative work. With total access granted by Abramović and the Museum of Modern Art, New York filmmaker Matthew Akers has created a visually luscious and mesmerizing cinematic journey that takes us inside the world of radical performance. The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival before going to more acclaim at the Berlin International Film Festival. Music Box is planning a June release to qualify for Oscar consideration.
