BAMCinematek Toasts Portugese Cinema

Written by: FFT Webmaster | November 28th, 2011

For selected dates from December 1 to 6, BAMcinématek, the arthouse mecca in the borough of Brooklyn, New York, will present Sound and Fury: Recent Portuguese Cinema, showcasing the current groundswell of filmmaking talent from Portugal. This 11-film series features critically acclaimed work, such as Miguel Gomes’ OUR BELOVED MONTH OF AUGUST and the great epic MYSTERIES OF LISBON by the sorely missed Raúl Ruiz. Other highlights of the series include the North American premieres of THE BARON, a mystical tale by Edgar Pêra, THE SWORD AND THE ROSE, a surrealist sea tale by João Nicolau, and the feature debut UPRISE by Sandro Aguilar. The series is a visual compliment to the BAM Next Wave Festival’s concert presentation Tudo Isto É Fado, a two-day event that examines the soul sounds of fado, the traditional Portuguese blues.
