Bob and Jeanne Berney To Leave Film District

Written by: FFT Webmaster | November 7th, 2011

The husband and wife team of Bob and Jeanne Berney will be exiting the new indie distributor FilmDistrict on the heels of the disappointing opening week for the Johnny Depp-starrer THE RUM DIARY. Both widely respected executives joined the new distribution company in June 2010, having both ankled previous firm Apparition. Bob Berney joined FilmDistrict as president of distribution and Jeanne Berney as executive vice president of marketing. Both will continue with the company through March 1, 2012. The team oversaw the roll-out of several high profile projects in the last year, including the hits INSIDIOUS, SOUL SURFER and DRIVE. Unfortunately, their latest film THE RUM DIARY, debuted last week to a dismal $5 million box office take, disastrous for a film that cost more than $50 million to produce. FilmDistrict has announced that it will close its New York office after March and consolidate its operations in Los Angeles.
