Another giant of French cinema is actor Gerard Depardieu, who this week was honored at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland. The Festival is specifically paying tribute to the artistic partnership of the actor and his frequent director Maurice Pialat. Four of their films have been shown this week, including LOULOU (1980), POLICE (1985), UNDER THE SUN OF SATAN (1987) and LE GARCU (1995).  Depardieu and the producer Sylvie Pialat, widow of the director who died in 2003, were the guests of honor at a special outdoor homage on the historic Piazza Grande on Monday evening. Olivier Père, the Artistic Director of the Locarno Film Festival, commented that “Gérard Depardieu and Maurice Pialat rank among the great partnerships in film history…..an extraordinary artistic collaboration and friendship. The 64th edition of the Locarno Film Festival continues through this weekend, with the announcement of its Golden Leopard Awards. For more information, visit: www.pardo.ch
