Written by: FFT Webmaster | June 10th, 2011

HBO Documentary Films has picked up domestic television rights to THE UNION, director Cameron Crowe’s documentary on the musical collaboration between Elton John and his early career idol Leon Russell. The film, which opened the Tribeca Film Festival with a free outdoor screening in April, explores John’s early career, the inspiration of American blues on his music and the collaborative album that he co-produced with T. Bone Burnett with Leon Russell that came out this Spring. The documentary will air on the cable television network in January. Crowe won an Oscar in 2001 for his script for the autobiographical music film ALMOST FAMOUS, after 1997 nominations for Best Screenplay and Best Film for his breakthrough film JERRY MAGUIRE, starring Tom Cruise and Rene Zellwegger.
