James Franco Planning To Direct Actor Biopic

Written by: FFT Webmaster | May 20th, 2011

James Franco, who successfully juggles a prolific acting career with a challenging PhD educational commitment, with time left over to write poetry and novels AND host the Academy Awards, is looking to add director to his long list of multi-tasking. It is being reported that Franco is considering making his directorial debut with SAL, a biopic of 1950s/1960s actor Sal Mineo (REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE, EXODUS). The film would focus on the young actor’s screen charisma and his troubled personal life, which included being a closeted homosexual in homophobic Hollywood. His death in 1977 at the hands of street hustlers makes for a tabloid-esque coda for the career of one of young Hollywood’s most haunted and haunting screen presences.
