Johnny Depp Gets The Star Treatment In Austin

Actor Johnny Depp, one of the world’s most bankable stars, will make a rare public appearance at this week’s Austin Film Festival in Texas. Depp will be the first-ever  recipient of the Festival’s inaugural Extraordinary Contribution to Film – Acting Award. Depp will also present Distinguished Screenwriter Awardee Caroline Thompson with her Award and be on hand for screenings of his new film THE RUM DIARY (based on the novel by Hunter S. Thompson) and a retrospective screening of his breakthrough role in Tim Burton’s EDWARD SCISSORHANDS. The Austin Film Festival is presenting a diverse showcase of mainly American independent titles, which have a strong audience loyalty in Texas’ sole liberal city.
