Kathryn Bigelow Film On Bin Laden Sets Opening Date

Written by: FFT Webmaster | July 29th, 2011

One of the most anticipated films of the Fall has finally set a theatrical release date. The still untitled film from THE HURT LOCKER team of Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal will open via Sony Pictures on October 12. The political thriller focuses on the Navy SEAL Team 6 and its methodical hunt to kill Al-Qaeda mastermind Osama bin Laden. The Oscar-winning director has long had a project in hand about the hunt to find Osama bin Laden but screenwriter Boal had to scurry to rework the script’s ending when the public enemy number one was actually killed in May. The unfinished script was hawked at the Cannes Film Festival where Sony Pictures picked up worldwide rights. Rumors are rampant that the film might open the prestigious New York Film Festival in late September, following an identical strategy that Sony Pictures employed last year with THE SOCIAL NETWORK.
