Lincoln Center Honors For Tsui Hark

Written by: FFT Webmaster | June 13th, 2011

The New York Asian Film Festival in early July will present its 2011 Star Asia Lifetime Achievement Award to Hong Kong film legend Tsui Hark. In 2001, the NYAFF held the first major retrospective of Tsui Hark’s work. The director has been invited back to program the Festival section entitled WU XIA: HONG KONG FLYING SWORDSMEN, which  will screen new and old classics of the wu xia genre. Swordplay films with a touch of fantasy, wu xia films are visual marvels, teeming with flying swordsmen, magical blades and glowering female steel-slingers. The line-up will include Tsui Hark’s mega-hit, DETECTIVE DEE AND THE MYSTERY OF THE PHANTOM FLAME and his earlier masterpiece THE BLADE. Other films featured in the Wu Xia Focus include DUEL TO THE DEATH and ZU: WARRIORS FROM THE MAGIC MOUNTAIN. For more information on the full program, visit: www.filmlinc.com
