Marco Mueller Leaves Venice For Rome

Marco Müller, who headed the Venice Film Festival until his dismissal earlier this year, has been appointed the new artistic director of the Rome Film Festival, one of Venice’s rivals for public monies, films and industry attendance.  Clearly, this is a strategic move by the Rome Film Festival, which takes place in October, one month after Venice, to steal some of that festival’s thunder. Muller is a much respected figure in the international film community and could use his considerable influence to get films to bypass Venice and come straight to Rome. “I could not be happier”, Muller said in a prepared statement, “to be back in my city, Rome, after twenty-two years. I’m proud to work on an exciting project, to develop a Festival that wants to respond to different needs: filmmakers, exhibitors, and audience”. Muller was also associated for many years with the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland. Let the games begin……
