New York’s Museum of Modern Art will recognize the prolific career and the indelible cinematic signature of director Roman Polanski with a complete retrospective of the filmmaker’s works from September 7 to 30. Polanski, whose latest film CARNAGE will open the New York Film Festival on September 30, is widely recognized as one of the world’s premier filmmakers, having directed films in Poland, England, the U.S., Italy, and France. Among the cinematic icons that he has directed to award-winning performances are such superstars as Jack Nicholson, Adrien Brody, Catherine Deneuve, Mia Farrow, Ben Kingsley, Ewan McGregor and Nastassja Kinski. The retrospective will include all of Polanski’s 18 feature films, including such classics as KNIFE IN THE WATER, REPULSION, ROSEMARY’S BABY, CHINATOWN, TESS, THE PIANIST and last year’s European Film Award winner THE GHOSTWRITER. Unfortunately, the famed director will not be able to attend the screenings due to on-going legal issues involving a 1970s arrest for statutory rape, but there are rumors that he may participate via video conference from his base in Paris.
