Fledgling distributor Millenium Entertainment has come out of the gate at the Cannes Film Festival with one of the first significant acquisitions announced here. The company has acquired North American rights to LITTLE BIRDS, a drama written and directed by gang-member-turned-filmmaker Elgin James. The teen drama focuses on the relationship between two 15 year-olds who live a hardscrabble life on the shores of the Salton Sea in a desolate corner of the California desert. The film, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival this year and is at the international market in Cannes, stars Juno Temple, Kay Panabaker, Kate Bosworth and Leslie Mann. Millenium was created last year as an independent distributor, with its first film released in April, TRUST, directed by David Schwimmer and starring Academy Award nominees Clive Owen, Catherine Keener and Viola Davis.
