Sundance Institute Selects Two Indie Film Classics

Written by: FFT Webmaster | January 4th, 2012

The Sundance Institute has announced that two influential indie films from the 1990s will screen in the From The Collection series at this month’s Sundance Film Festival. DAUGHTERS OF THE DUST (1991), by director Julie Dash is a unique story of the American South, as told in the gullah language of the barrier islands off the coast of Georgia. The film, featuring a mostly all female African American cast, tells the intimate tale of the Pazants family, who prepare to migrate from their Sea Island home to the mainland, leaving their land and legacy behind. The other film classic to be featured is REALITY BITES (1994), the directorial debut of Ben Stiller, who acts his heart out in this Generation X dramedy about disaffected twenty-somethings, that also features a sterling cast that includes Ethan Hawke, Janeane Garofalo, Steve Zahn and Winona Ryder. Both directors are expected to attend these revival screenings at the Festival.
