Written by: FFT Webmaster | September 19th, 2011

One of the iconic films of the 1970s, Peter Bogdonavich’s THE LAST PICTURE SHOW, is being revived at New York’s Film Forum. The 1971 black-and-white classic is based on Larry McMurtry’s novel and featuring an all-star ensemble cast headed by Jeff Bridges, Cybill Shepherd, Timothy Bottoms, Ellen Burstyn, Eileen Brennan and in back-to-back Oscar wins, Cloris Leachman and Ben Johnson. The film was shot on location in novel author/co-scenarist Larry McMurtry’s own home town and received an impressive eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Director, Screenplay, Cinematography, and a never-topped four for supporting parts (Bridges, Johnson, Leachman, Burstyn). The film established Bogdonavich as one of the talented young auteurs in movies. For more information, visit: www.filmforum.org
