British-born director Tony Scott, director of a string of high-octane blockbusters and the brother of fellow director Ridley Scott, died Sunday by jumping from a suspension bridge into Los Angeles Harbor. He was 68. It was reported in the press that he had inoperable brain cancer and thus decided to end his life so abruptly. The director/producer of such top hits as TOP GUN, CRIMSON TIDE, BEVERLY HILLS COP II and other big budget films, was often his brother’s producing partner, but did not have the stellar career that the elder Scott had with such films as ALIEN and BLADE RUNNER. Both brothers were active and made their fortunes in the television commercials, corporate video and music video fields as well.
