Transgender Doc Premieres On Winfrey Network

Written by: FFT Webmaster | May 10th, 2011

The new Oprah Winfrey Network may, at last, have its first “must see” program when the documentary BECOMING CHAZ makes its television network debut this evening. The film tells the personal story of Chaz Bono, the former Chastity Bono (yes, the love child of Sonny Bono and Cher) who made the decision last year to change her sex and become a man. Directed by the team of Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato (the team behind the documentary successes THE EYES OF TAMMY FAYE and INSIDE DEEP THROAT), the film, which was a hot ticket at its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, offers a no-holds barred look at the physical and emotional difficulties of sex reassignment surgery and the effect that it has on Chaz’ family and friends, including icon Cher (whose rather lukewarm support for the decision may surprise many who know her as a gay icon).
