Tribeca Film Acquires Indie Drama

Written by: FFT Webmaster | August 10th, 2011

Tribeca Film, the distribution arm of the Tribeca Film Institute, has acquired all distribution rights in the US and Canada to THE LAST RITES OF JOE MAY, an emotionally powerful drama centering on a hustler (played by veteran actor Dennis Farina) who travels a winding road to redemption.  Written and directed by Joe Maggio and produced by Stephanie Striegel and Bill Straus in association with Chicago’s Steppenwolf Films, the film made its world premiere in competition at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival. With echoes of the classic dramas of the 1970s, the film is the story of a sixty-something short-money hustler in Chicago. When he returns home from a lengthy hospital stay, he discovers that his landlord has rented out his apartment to Jenny (played by Jamie Anne Allman), a single mom with a young daughter. The two decide to share the apartment while the hustler plots a comeback scheme and learns some valuable life lessons about redemption and forgiveness along the way. The film will be released theatrically and on VOD platforms in October. For more information and to view a trailer, visit: www.tribecafilm.com
